Applying to university can feel overwhelming, but most institutions follow a similar online process. This guide walks you through each step.

Step 1: Choose Your Course and Institution

Research programmes that match your interests, career goals and APS score. Use our Course Finder to discover options.

Step 2: Check Requirements

Each course has its own APS and subject requirements. Make sure you meet the minimum and understand whether you need to write a placement test or submit a portfolio.

Step 3: Apply Online

Most universities use an online application portal. You will need to create an account, complete your personal details, upload documents and pay an application fee if required.

Step 4: Upload Documents

Commonly required documents include your ID, matric certificate or latest results, proof of residence, and sometimes a motivation letter or CV.

Step 5: Track Your Application

After submitting, log in to the portal regularly to check your application status. Respond quickly to any requests for additional information.

Step 6: Apply for Funding

If you need financial support, apply for NSFAS or bursaries as early as possible. Funding deadlines are often different from application deadlines.
