Who Qualifies?

To qualify, you must be a South African citizen, have a combined household income of R350,000 or less per year, and be registered or planning to register at a public university or TVET college. Students with disabilities have a higher income threshold of R600,000.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official NSFAS website at nsfas.org.za.
  2. Create a myNSFAS account with a valid email and cellphone number.
  3. Complete the online application form.
  4. Upload your ID, proof of income, and matric results.
  5. Submit before the closing date.

What NSFAS Covers

  • Tuition fees paid directly to the institution.
  • Accommodation allowance (capped amount).
  • Meal allowance for students living in catered residences or off-campus.
  • Transport allowance for students living within 40 km of campus.
  • Book allowance for learning materials.

Important Tips

Apply as soon as applications open. Keep your phone and email active because NSFAS communicates mostly through SMS and email. Always use the official website and never pay anyone to “fast-track” your application.
